The macroscopic description of Snell & E.A. Dick http://mushroomobserver.org/name/show_name/43116?q=1otUT is a 100% match.

is just a cheap and easy way of saying ‘fungus with teeth,’ of which Auriscalpium is a perfectly good example.

This (or something extremely similar) has been observed by Eduardo and Alan several times, in Panama and Mexico, respectively. I suspect it is an Auriscalpium sp., possibly A. andinum. I have written Dr. Ryvarden for more information, as A. andinum was recombined (from Hydnum andinum) in this 2001 paper:

… sorry, no better one from the hymenium. The other one I have is even worse. But I have posted new pictures with observation http://mushroomobserver.org/158858?q=1kGwc It might be same species.

Need better…

Need better photos of the hymenium. I can’t tell if there are spines in the hymenium, only some fuzzy hyphae below the hymenium.

… would not be included in ‘Hydnaceae sensu lato’ to my understanding. Auriscalpium should be considered here too.

Please check also my second observation http://mushroomobserver.org/158858?q=1kGwc . This fungi was growing in the same area.

Thanks for providing the helpful links Alan!
