the red-capped variety I have collected in hardwood/hemlock woods with absolutely no oak present. I had originally called this type bolete “nobilissimus”, but the habitat does not match Boletus nobilissimus as it is described in NA Boletes.

It seems reasonable that B. nobilissimus may have a wider range of associated tree types than is suggested in NA Boletes.
