Observation 159335: Pulveroboletus brunneoscabrosus Har. Takah.

The specimen imaged here was growing in temperate rainforest (Eucalyptus obliqua, Nothofagus cunninghamii) in southeastern Tasmania.

The one macroscopic feature differing from the original species description of Takahashi is that the Tasmanian material has an oxidation reaction – slowly pale lime green on pileus and stipe, slowly pale blue green on hymenophore.

The red scabers on the stipe, and the red pileus surface which eventually breaks up into areoles, appear diagnostic.

Collected with help from D. Ratkowsky, G. Gates, N. Fechner.
