as portrayed here:

and this sp. is supposed to be the most widely distributed in temperate North America (though it is by no means restricted to that area), but the more I familiarize myself with this new and impressive monograph and its focal genus, the more it appears that species IDs are as micro-dependent as most of the rest of the Ascomycetes. makes me wish the monograph had more synoptic keys for macro features and distribution.
