Recognized by sight: This mushroom was found on a foray in the Veneto Region of Italy organized by Silvano Pizzardo, “Coordinator pro tempore” of the Federation Veneti (Mycology) Groups who also identified the mushrooms.

The look alike species, Pholiotina aporos, fruits in the spring in Italy.

According to this Spanish mushroom website, Pholiotina aporos, is the species most similar to Pholiotina arrhenii but it fruits in the spring.

Pholiotina aporos is “present from March to May” and the mushrooms in these photos were found in mid September.

I don’t think any micro work was done on these because I think this was a field ID. I will try to contact Silvano Pizzardo but he doesn’t speak English and this was found over 2 years ago.
