Amanita vaginata is a European name, and I’m not sure that anyone really has…

a good idea of what it is. This species is probably assignable to sect. Vaginatae; however, there’s a very good chance that it has not scientific name. That’s sort of the way it goes in sect. Vaginatae. :( The best thing to do is take pictures, take notes, post the pix on MO, dry the specimen, study the specimen and describe it…and just keep doing that until we understand what we have of sect. Vaginatae in eastern North America. We have a lot of species and a tiny number of names.

It would be good to have a shot of the base of the stipe…it probably has a membranous saccate volva in the case of this mushroom.
