Specimen available

Specimen found by collector in Hawaii growing from mango wood. It shares similarities with Polyporus dictyopus, however after further research I think it could be Microporus affinis. I think that this Identification is more likely due to the location.

A specimen was sent to me and I have examined it.Photographs included are from the collector showing the mushroom on its substrate, and by me when I recieved a sample.

Black/dark brown fan with slight tinges of red, 49mm across 1-2mm thick.

Underside cream color, 5-10 pores per mm.

Black/brown stipe 45mm in length and 2mm thick.

perhaps the variation is less in Hawaii.

where did you source the Ryvarden description?

Stem matches Ryvarden.

This description of the stipe by Ryvarden matches this specimen.

STIPE lateral, up to 4 cm long and prominent to almost lacking, 2-8 mm in diameter, usually expanded both towards the base and the pore surface, round to slightly flattened, first greyish and finely adpressed tomentose, later glabrous in parts and then almost black with a distinct crust over a white context, at the base usually expanded into a circular disc, more or less persistently covered with a tomentum,”

I based my ID from that, and this observation, which at the time was labeled M.affinis. http://mushroomobserver.org/87628?q=1pm05

I can send this specimen to anyone who wants to study it further, it is in a few more pieces after being cultured but is dried and preserved.

I have,

This specimen in culture if anyone wants to do DNA sequencing on it, I will probably send it out to someone at some point.
