Observation 1630: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray

When: 2006-12-09

Collection location: Albion, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)

No specimen available

Notes:
One more unknown here (although I could add about 6 more unknown Russulas, really need to get better with Russulas (and a few more unknown Ramarias, but I digress…)…). Kinda a purple Cortinarius-y kinda guy. But the interesting thing is the funny smallish cap compared to the stipe. And a close up of the lamellae, shows how they are small, undeveloped and with roughened edges. So, not sure what to make of this one, but kinda neat.

I’ve seen one with that color. I would guess the small cap is just an environmental thing and not a character of the species.
