Applying names to Neotropical Fungi

According to the Catálogo de plantas e fungos do Brasil four Daldinia species are known from Brazil so far, among them Daldinia eschscholzii. Therefore it is definitely an option here, but Danny is right: one should be very careful with applying species names in the Neotropics.

Thanks, Danny for sharing this helpful link and emphasizing the importance of a cross section for identification of Daldinia species.

causing me to seriously rethink applying species names to Daldinia observations without micro, KOH pigment extraction, or cross sections. looks like a far more diverse genus, even just within the Neotropics, than I previously thought.
