Observation 164148: Coprinopsis picacea (Bull. : Fr.) Redhead. Vilgalys & Moncalvo

Notes:
Strong, deep corn smell verging on unpleasant.

As far as I can tell, obs 163829 and this are the only obses of a Coprinopsis that looks like this from Southern California… Must be the same species, looks the same, same day(!!!), similar habitat, maybe 40 miles away

There are at least 2 species…

In Europe which C. picacea can be confused with, spores would help, this and that other obs are the first time I have heard of them in CA.

Interestingly, I found a C. picaceus look alike on Palomar Mountain in November of 2005, still the only place in CA that I have seen it…
