Observation 165262: Agaricus bernardi Quél.

When: 2014-05-14

Collection location: Arlington, Virginia, USA [Click for map]

Who: Willow Nero (wbnero)

No specimen available

Notes:
I’ve never seen a grocery store mushroom stain red, so I had to post this. Based on the keys I looked at, few agaricus species stain red and have no NaOH (KOH) reaction. It also has a pretty enlarged base. Was growing in mulch in a flowerbed. Inrolled margin.

I didn’t realize so many agaricus in this country, especially the East Coast, are undescribed. :)
