North American Auricularia

Multiple studies including my own have shown that Auricularia auricula-judae does not occur in the Americas. The appropriate name for what has been called A. auricula-judae here is A. americana. There are reports of this in South America, but no sequences have been recovered. It is likely that Mexico is the southernmost distribution of this species. This specimen is almost entirely lacking hairs on the upper surface, which does not match any described species for the Americas. It could be an undescribed species or a mutated/abnormal form of A. fuscosuccinea.
