Crustose lichen appressed to bark of Bigleaf maple (Acer macrophyllum).


Fingernail in foreground is 7/8" across, showing how tiny these lichens are. Note the red-brown cup-like structures near the center of the photo. This obs. is for the ribbon-like lichen in the center.
