Observation 165940: Lichen P. Micheli

When: 2014-05-26

Collection location: Rooster Rock State Park, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Small shelf-like lichen, growing on older Douglas-fir. Lichen(?) is saturated with water, 1cm thick(!?), and dark brown to black. Underside is without rhizimes, and is black. What may be circular apothecia are located close to where the fungus was attached to the bark of an old-growth Douglas-fir, but on the upper side.

(Jason – am I out of the ballpark here?)
