On rocks near the peak of Mount Mitchell. The green one may be the same thing with algae on it, but I’m not sure.

Recognized by sight: “toad skin” — with that distintive “bubbly” surface, it can only be confused with L. pensylvanica, much rarer in southern Apps, and shiny darker brown versus this pale “powdery” color

Up there with Umbilicaria mammulata. Nice and distinctive, big, and common. What’s not to like? :)
