Unlike U.mammulata, U.muehlenbergii forms only small colonies around here.

Usually they’re on open top of bluffs, unlike U.mammulata more typical environment on shady sides of rock formations deep in the woods. This particular batch, however, is surrounded by forest, and is only exposed through a narrow “window” facing south (seen in the bottom photo). And this happens to be one of the best samples I’ve seen so far – I guess the location is more suitable than just being completely exposed.
