According to info I have found, Lepraria species of lichen form a mealy/grainy/crumbly crust. As I recall, the reason why I thought this to be a fungus and not a lichen is because the material was friable and not durable. My concept of lichen had been that they are generally composed of durable material. So this appears to be an interesting counterexample to my flawed generalization.
