likes to eat heartwood. We don’t have that much in the PNW, but with REALLY old trees there is some. I’d look for fresh material in September-November.

I thought and hoped that is what it was as I have never found any up here before. Too bad it wasn’t in better condition I will be checking this spot more frequently now. Thanks for the ID.
