I totally agree with Rex and Pulk’s points below,
and mostly try to follow a similar protocol to Pulk’s naming.
I delete proposed names that are old names/misapplied as well
to prevent further propagating them.

I agree completely with Pulk. Mistakes and incorrect guesses can be very important information to have. You might not be right about the guess but that doesn’t mean that the guess was unfounded and I think it’s important to understand why you might make that guess in the first place, it could be very useful information for someone in the future.

I think that identifying similar species is arguably just as important as identifying the actual species. Those species are the most likely to get confused and it would beneficial to know the differences as well as possible over knowing the all the differences between obviously non-similar species.

I try to only delete suggestions when they’re typos/redundant, or I change my mind really soon after (i.e., not as strong as a regular suggestion). I think it’s useful to see any “real” suggestions, even ones ending up way in the negatives and you’ve changed your mind, to avoid hiding information:

what kinds of suggestions a user makes, how you change over time, just how much the community disagrees with the suggestion, how suggestions on MO change over time, which taxa someone could mistake the observation for, helping people get any idea of commonly confused taxa…
