I am grateful for your gift of this material. It is as good for us to know what we do not know as it is to gain confirmation for what we think we know. :) :(
An incomplete sequence has been derived from the material you sent us of this collection. We did not get a “proposed fungal barcode” sequence in the present case. Sometimes this is because there multiple divergent copies of this gene present in a given species. The sequence we obtained was derived from the nrLSU gene. We do not have sufficient experience yet to know if nrLSU is more or less variable Amanita abrupta than it is in other species. Therefore, sequencing of more material determined to be A. abrupta is needed in order to get a better understanding.
We have recieved this material and accessioned it to Rod’s Herbarium. We have scheduled it for DNA sequencing.
