On ground/well rotted wood debris (possibly dumped by side of road)in mixed woods including hemlock, white pine and red maple, Cap up to 6 cm., yellow brown with darker center, becoming orange brown sticky when fresh. Yellowish gills bruising blackish brown, becoming brown. Stem pallid with red brown fibrils on lower section. Context pale yellow, reddish at stem base. Pungent odor. Slightly tart taste. Orange brown spore deposit.

Love to look at it! Believe it or not there are a bunch of Pholiota with ferruginous spores.

but couldn’t find any with that KOH reaction and pungent odor although the sticky cap seemed to suggest it. I find these two genera tough to tell apart.
