crust surface cystidia, which give it a velvetty look. it is not easy getting a thin slice!!!

Recognized by sight: some kinda cool two-toned crust; seeing a lot of it this year. note younger material on left.

Recognized by sight: this is my best guess witout a microscope. in the right specimen you can almost see the numerous huge cystidia giving it a velvety appearance. Was it associated with a brown rot?
