Morels and calypso orchids go together like bread and butter, at least true of those that I found in CO.

Only two collection of species brunnea were examined, both from Oregon; from the Supplemental Tables in the Kuo paper.

brunnea (holotype) OSC 138686 Jefferson OR 5-May-1990 N. S. Weber 6199

brunnea F 04100401 Jackson OR 10-Apr-2004 J. Petersen

They are similar to another species that has also been collected only a couple of times (in Darvin’s backyard and again by Nancy Weber) but still lacks a latin name (Mel-8). Who knows how many other cryptic species are out there?

I think that it is premature to try and put species names on these morels, just from a photo. Even in hand, without the DNA back-up, you are still mostly guessing.

thank you
