it was staining red at the base of the stipe although faintly. I do agree that is is close to C. cyanites

Is it bruising red? Looks like it on the stem base.
If so, I guess it belongs in the difficult group around cyanites/porphyropus/purpurascens with several "sub"species and varieties..
