Observation 20138: Galerina Earle

When: 2009-01-31

Collection location: Albion, Mendocino Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)

Specimen available

Found on rotting hay, in a hay bale. This was a hay bale that was off on the side yard for the Albion field station, you could actually see the bale from the lab room used for the foray display.

These are kinda weird, Galerinas found on hay, no moss, no rotting wood. This is the only time I’ve seen this. Peter Werner and I looked at them under the scope, and were able to confirm they are Galerina, but didn’t get much farther than that. I need to look at these under the scope one of these times.
