thallus pale gray rimose-areolate extensive K- C- KC-, medulla P- I- (Lugols), apothecia black with raised black rim and often an umbo, epihymenium brown clearing in K, exciple red-brown perhaps intensifying in K, hypothecium dark brown K-, hymenium greenish ~110um, spores 8 per ascus halonate hyaline 3-septate to more often submuriform ~16×10um
