Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

The only trait that seems to match very well with the BRB description of “speciosus var. brunneus” is that the cut context on this specimen did not quickly stain blue. After several minutes only a slight spotty change to blue was observed. The reticulation of this specimen looked somewhat different than what I have

BRB mentions the similar but rare species B. pseudopeckii. The short description of this species mentions the lack of prominent staining on the context.

Mixed woods near large basswood tree. No oak in this immediate area.
