Observation 20808: Trametes gibbosa (Pers.) Fr.

When: 2009-05-03

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Lots of these on an old birch stump in a low area by the river. The second and third photos are closeups of the same one. The thinnest part is apparently translucent, to judge by the third photo. Fourth photo is an even closer shot of the underside of a bracket not visible in any of the other three photos.

These four photos, especially the latter two, were somewhat tricky to get, involving both acrobatics and tripod tricks. The stump was a few feet from the path through shrubs, some of them with thorns.
