Observation 20909: Peltigera membranacea (Ach.) Nyl.

When: 2009-05-02

Collection location: Fields Creek, John Day, Grant Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Jason Hollinger (jason)

Specimen available

Fairly excellent sample. Found in very moist microhabitat in deep shady gorge along Fields Creek, on mossy bank and rocks.

This is a damp specimen, obscuring the fine tomentose surface, but the color is quite distinctive when wet, in combination with the conspicuous broad blisters and turned-down lobe tips. The distinctive sharply raised and apparently overlapping veins below are also important. (The veins are minutely pubescent or fuzzy, another identifying characteristic. Use a hand lens.)
