Observation 20925: Parmeliopsis ambigua (Wulfen) Nyl.

When: 2009-05-08

Collection location: Edgewood Blue, Wells Gray region, British Columbia, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Jason Hollinger (jason)

No specimen available

Found on logs and bases of trunks, typically in places that stay covered by snow for long periods of time during the winter. Parmeliopsis ambigua is distinctly greenish. Compare to the very similar P. hyperopta, a colorless version of the same thing. P. hyperopta typically is found higher up on the same trees, however as the photo proves, they can be found growing side by side.
