When: 2009-05-29

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Found Fomes fomentarius ( http://www.mushroomobserver.org/21401 ), Trichaptum biforme, and Piptoporus betulinus ( http://www.mushroomobserver.org/21403 ) on a pair of adjacent Betula papyrifera snags in Zone 07, an open pine wood with a scattering of spruce, balsam fir, birch, and maple and a thick undergrowth of Beaked Hazel (Corylus cornuta). One snag had T. biforme and P. betulinus, the other T. biforme and F. fomentarius.

This observation is for the T. biforme: brackets up close, up close and slightly from beneath, up close from beneath, colonies high up the same snag with the F. fomentarius (the photos of F. fomentarius in ob. x are from lower down, and there were more __F. fomentarius higher up above this section carpeted in T. biforme), and colonies on the snag with the P. betulinus.
