Characterization: saxicolous Stereocaulon with
(1) prostrate, decumbent thallus forming dorsoventral mat (in the fine words of Hinds and Hinds!)
(2) dense phyllocladia covering dorsal surfaces of pseudopodetia completely
(3) cephalodia small, inconspicuous; apothecia not evident

Identification: These characteristics are consistent with Stereocaulon saxatile

Common name: rock foam lichen
