Observation 21664: Dermatocarpon atrogranulosum Breuss

When: 2009-05-28

Collection location: Vavenby Limestone South, British Columbia, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Jason Hollinger (jason)

Specimen available

Notes:
On shaded base of limestone cliff. Curtis tells me this is one of only a handful of populations known of this rare species. The texture of the undersurface is apparently important: texture is “sandpapery… consisting of coarse, irregular, partly clustering granules in part more than 0.5 mm across”. (The similar D. reticulatum is more finely and uniformly roughened.)
