Formerly Tricholoma Zellerii- this species looks identical to a matsutake from a distance. Except, of course, the cap is distinctly orange brownish/greenish hued with metallic striations of color threads on cap (exhibited most clearly in direct sunlight). Flocking on stem is identical to Matsutake, as well, with more orange/rust tones evident in T. focale.
Odor: like old carpet and cat pee.
Taste: mealy, bitter.
Found in moss beneath Doug fir(multiple T.magnivelare and white chanterelles nearby).
Temp: low 50’s.
Alternative Name(s): Tricholoma zelleri (D.E. Stuntz & A.H. Sm.) Ovrebo & Tylutki
