Who: John S. Harper (jsharper)

Specimen available

On well rotted down trunk of unknown type. Depressed rough reddish center on younger specimen, turning darker to black. Yellow outer edge. Younger specimen still slightly rubbery, older speciment hard/corky. Pore surface yellowish buff turning browish. Considered alternative Phaeolus schweinitzii, but rejected because of smaller size of P. givnus, and conclusion based on surrounding trees less likely to have been on conifer.
