I too would have thought this would be Geastrum saccatum is there any reason its thought not to be?

reminds of Geastrum saccatum, it has a more prominent peristome than the one on triplex.

Another one that behaves like triplex (leaving a collar around the endoperidium) is Geastrum indicum, but I don’t think this is any of them.
