Observation 22458: Agrocybe Fayod

When: 2009-06-22

Collection location: Sitka, Alaska, USA [Click for map]

Who: Matt Goff (gwark)

No specimen available

Found this growing on dirt in avalanche track with many alder (Alnus viride ssp. sinuata) in a location that had only recently lost its cover of snow from winter avalanche activity.

There was no spore print, but the spores had a rusty brown look to them in the scope, particularly against the very pale gill trama. The bulb at the base is part of the stem, not veil tissue. No reaction with KOH. The flesh of the cap is pale and the gills are beige at this point. There are occasional bowling pin looking cystidia as well.
