Notes:
I found this outside a high school over some woodchips, but it was probably still growing from the soil.

Most notable features are a brown spore print, free gills, a cup-like base, and ellipsoid smooth spores.

I had trouble keying it out on the California Mushrooms book, but the closest I got was Heboloma aff. crustuliniforme. I don’t think that’s it because it has adnate to notched gills.
