Found in Zone 45 growing at the base of a dead tree. Somewhat the worse for wear. These were far from any trail.

Zone 45 is a large expanse of mixed wood near the forest edge. It contains quaking aspen, balsam fir, maple, and birch, and probably pine, and is dense with saplings with scattered old trees and many more mature ones. Between it and the actual edge is Zone 46, which is nearly pure balsam fir. A trail enters the forest through Zone 46 and forks in Zone 45, but much of Zone 45 lies north of this and is trackless.
