Observation 231303: Marasmius Fr.

Notes:
Before 2015 I had only heard of or read about the phenomenon of tropical birds using aerially rhizomorphic Marasmiaceae to build their nests. Then we found three nests, intact, within a month of one another, in two different countries.

Habitat: Atlantic Paranaense forest

Substrate: adhering to neighboring branches and pieces of litter used to build nest

Collector: D. Newman

Collection #: CIAR013

Collected during the 2015 “Curso de Identificación de Macrohongos Degradadores de Madera,” lead by Dr. Gerardo Robledo, Dr. Elisandro Ricardo Drechsler-Santos, Dr. Orlando Fabián Popoff Montañez and Nicolás Niveiro.
