Habitat: oak woodland
Substrate: duff, near edge of road
Cap: 8 cm with x 5 cm high; context white, unchanging with cutting/handling; 12 mm at the disc gradually to thinning to the margin; hemispherical, slight flat top ; dry; brown scales; golden over creamy white; a couple small discolorations were reddish-orange; very slowly became more golden yellow with handling; appendiculate; slightly sweet, nutty odor; taste mild
Gills: ivory white; free
Stipe: 16 cm h x 3 cm thick, mostly appearing even with very gradual taper to 2 cm; outside coloring light golden over creamy white before what looks like very few remnants of an annulus, and ivory white above the remnants; appressed fibrillose, shaggier near the top of the stipe; cespitose growth in a cluster of 5 mushrooms, so slightly sinuous stipe and slightly bulbous where connected; not discoloring yellow like A. augustus (or what I thought were A. augustus) in the past; very slowly discoloring pale reddish brown only near the base, unchanging elsewhere; slightly sweet, nutty odor
