Observation 231387: Mollisia (Fr.) P. Karst.

Notes:
On a decaying barkless log. Cups up to 2 mm across.

Asci 78 × 7; spores 9-10 × 2-2.5. Curiously, asci tips didn’t show amyloid reaction in either MLZ or IKI.

Danny, thank you for the reference to A. Gminder’s key, the names, and the interesting comment. I’m looking forward to collecting more of these, and like these. The location of this one was very close to home.

it looks like a macromorphological character is important in differentiating between these two possible Mollisia spp; the degree of caespitosity. M. depressula is not “fasciculate”/caespitose, while M. ligni is. this, combined with some “marginal” and “end” cell characteristics, would likely get this observation to species. see the link to Andreas’ key in the name proposals.
