Seems to be a very young Inonotus species

or some other oak-loving polypore if it is a fungus. This looks like a mycelium kernel.

Parasitized Daldinia?

Although I’ve never seen a parasitized Daldinia before, that’s what it looks like. Appears to be erupting directly from wood. White base indicates another fungus eating on it. Can’t see enough of the interior to give a better suggestion. This would be a good one to collect, since I’ve never seen anything similar.
