Observation 23376: Suillus Gray

When: 2009-07-20

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

A sizable bolete in poor condition in Zone 48 close to an Amanita and not far from some Russulas and Suillus pictus. It doesn’t itself seem to be S. pictus but it does seem to be suilloid, with somewhat irregular/angular yellow pores, a viscid-looking cap with color zones, and the right general stature for the genus.

The pores were difficult to image in situ, but I didn’t feel like uprooting this one, not after getting several covered in slugs or worse, maggots earlier in the day. :)
