Observation 23412: Amanita flavoconia G.F. Atk.

When: 2009-07-21

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

The interesting thing about this baby A. flavoconia is its location: Zone 19. It was the only thing growing there besides a species of Suillus (and various non-mushroomy things).

Zone 19 is all about pine: Pinus banksiana, P. resinosa, and P. strobus are all present and none is much more abundant than the others. There is a smattering of hardwoods thrown in.
