Observation 23424: Mutinus elegans (Mont.) Fisch.

Found growing along an old abandon logging road. Growing in leaf litter where downed leaves gather in a furrow like place on the side of the Road. This particular one is a bit old having lost most of its spore mass.

I think that Mutinus ravenellii or Mutinus elegans are better choices.
