When: 2009-07-24

Collection location: Jaffrey, New Hampshire, USA [Click for map]

Who: Noah Siegel (Noah)

No specimen available

I don’t know why I’m doing this to myself… I collected a few russulas to work on, boy am I sorry now.

This one keys out to R. mutabilis but I’m not convinced, the stipe is showing some red staining now (four hours after first handling) but not enough to convince me that it’s mutabilis, everything else macro fits, may scope it tomorrow.

Cap; 8-10cm across, slightly viscid when wet, striated margin. cap cuticle peeling half way.
Stipe; 6-8cm long 2.5-3.5 thick, discoloring orange-tan throughout, eventually reddish at base.
Odor; Strong, fetid marzipan.
Taste; Acrid

Any other ideas…
