Specimen available

On white calcareous rock in full sun. Semi-arid annual grassland.

Thallus tan, areolate, orange patches are apothecial initials. Apothecia a distinctive orange color with white material on outer edge, often folded.

Although ID is not confirmed, this observation documents the taxon on calcareous rock, whereas other specimens have been on sandstone, siliceous or conglomerate rock.

Woah, I think we saw this in eastern NV

I don’t know if Nastassja has looked at it yet. I certainly had no idea what it was in the field. It was on a relatively loose sandstone-like ash-tuff, just outside of Area 51. (The local military was very interested in our activities. :)
