Observation 2365: Clitocybe fragrans (With.) P. Kumm.

When: 2007-02-08

Collection location: Howarth Park, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)

No specimen available

Notes:
A rather nondescript little mushroom. Solitary in mixed woods, on the ground. Pileus 25 mm across and height from ground to umbo 4.5 cm. What piqued my curiosity was it’s fragrance. It’s a rather subtle eau de Play Doh. The darker photo does the pileus justice and the lighter one favors the stipe.

Could it be Clitocybe fragrans? Your description of the odor is unknown to me. Here is a link to the other observations on this site:
Clitocybe fragrans

Mushrooms Demystified has it listed on page 162, as Clitocybe deceptiva.
