It was a mixed forest, but mainly deciduous. This is the one and only specimen I have ever found.
I’ve always wanted to find one of these since it has a one-of-a-kind color and being a choice edible that can’t be confused with anything poisonous (due to color). My guides say it’s found in pine duff, but your specimen appears to be in deciduous leaf litter. Was it mixed forest?
